Prior to setting up Argonaut, Barry was Head of European Equities at Neptune Investment Management where he managed the Neptune European Opportunities Fund from its launch in November 2002. Prior to Neptune, Barry worked at Baillie Gifford as an equity analyst.
Argonaut invest with conviction and the strategies seek to deliver attractive risk-adjusted returns to investors through the economic cycle by following a rigorous, repeatable and proven investment process. They invest in their own strategies, they manage money without formal reference to benchmark and their clients include institutions, wealth managers, family offices and private individuals.
Argonaut’s investment philosophy revolves around three core principles:
- Independent thinking
First principles thinking is key to alpha generation. They use external research but never rely on it.
- Conviction investing
Great ideas are rare so should be made to count. Where they find attractive risk-reward they invest with conviction albeit they always look to avoid anchoring. They seek to have strong convictions loosely held: if they feel the facts have changed they will change their positioning.
- Absolute returns
Risk Management is key to long term compounding. They think in absolute rather than relative terms, they manage money without reference to benchmarks and they seek to make positive returns in all market environments.
